Summary
In Chapter 59, Rachel asks Miriam if she can come to Miriam’s family’s Shabbat dinner again. Miriam says yes, but that Rachel must not even hint to Miriam’s family about Rachel and Miriam’s relationship. Rachel understands, although her feelings are still somewhat hurt. In Chapter 60, Rachel arrives for Shabbat dinner. Miriam’s brother Adiv is visiting from Israel. While the other family members are still kind and loving, Adiv appears reticent, irritable, and toughened by his experiences. In Chapter 61, that night, Rachel sneaks into Miriam’s room and they have sex. In Chapter 62, the next morning Miriam worries that her mother might have heard them. Rachel’s feelings continue to be hurt by the fact that Miriam wants to keep their relationship secret from her family. Miriam herself even seems to view their relationship as being wrong in some way.
