Summary
In Chapter 32, Rachel returns to the yogurt shop. Miriam invites Rachel to have Shabbat dinner with Miriam and her family. Rachel accepts. In Chapter 33, Rachel arrives at the house of Miriam’s parents for Shabbat dinner. Miriam’s family is relatively wealthy. They own a chain of yogurt shops, which is not their only line of business. Miriam’s family is kind and accepting like Miriam. Rachel finds herself wishing she could have grown up in a household like this one, where everyone was kind and loving, and where everyone loved to eat. In Chapter 34, Miriam’s family invites Rachel to sleep on their couch that night. Miriam’s family is Orthodox Jewish, and any form of labor (such as driving) is forbidden after sunset.
