Summary

In Part II, Chapter 19, Franny wakes in Ennis's cabin, wondering why Niall has not come to find her. The crew discusses their options. Everyone asks why Franny killed the man; Léa defends her when the others argue. Franny then confesses that she killed two people and is on the run from the police. Basil angers and leaves. Ennis takes a vote, asking who wants to keep going and who wants to turn back. They stay on the water. Later, Franny asks Ennis why he is helping her. He says: "You're one of us...We don't hand our people over" (164).

In Chapter 20, 12 years prior, Franny sits in on Niall's lecture on climate change. Afterwards, Franny asks if Niall is okay; he seems distressed by the climatic devastation. When he proposes they follow the terns' migration, Franny agrees, knowing it will never...
