Chapters 21 - 22 Summary

Chapter 21: Rex tells the other midnighters what he learned — the truth about Halloween. The ancient society would set bonfires all night long on Halloween, not out of joy but to protect themselves from evil. They would try to ward off the darklings from coming on November 1st of each year. Finally, once the darklings and slithers retreated to the secret hour, society thought they had won and used the holiday as a celebration. At the conclusion of his story, Rex tells the midnighters he has a plan and that they must meet in Jenks at 6:30 a.m. He then dismisses them all to enjoy the remainder of this last peaceful secret hour.

Jonathan and Jessica talk in depth about Rex's information. He told them that the world will not in fact end but that every year at midnight on Halloween...
