Summary

In Chapter 26, "Blood" the Cullens find Bella near death in a dance studio, ravaged by James. Edward launches at James, then leaves his demise to Jasper and Emmett as he rushes to a broken Bella. Carlisle quickly comes to her aid, as does Alice, but the situation is complicated by the volume of blood. As Carlisle stitches her, Bella screams that her hand is burning indicating James bit her. Edward realizes the bite location means a slow transformation into vampire, and is tormented. Carlisle suggests Edward try to suck the venom out rather than transform her with another bite. Despite the tremendous challenge of not being able to stop, Edward successfully sucks the venom from Bella's veins.
