Chapters 22-24 Summary
Chapter 22. Mangus has the princess lock them in the chapel, learning for the first time about the hidden door in the cabinet. When Fabrizio admits that he learned of the hidden door from Rinaldo, Mangus seems happy with this idea. Mangus then proceeds to show Fabrizio and the princess how the chapel is directly above the niche where the ghost has appeared and that there are windows on that wall that are designed to allow light from the lower corridor to enter the chapel. Mangus then shows how a candle with a mirror and silver plate can be directed into the niche to create the ghost. Mangus also shows how a person standing near the candle can create the illusion of a human figure in the light. As Mangus finishes his explanation and begins to ask the princess about her accomplice...
