Chapters 18-21 Summary

Chapter 18. Fabrizio sees Count Scarazoni at the niche, seeming intent in studying it. Fabrizio then goes to the princess's chambers as he promised earlier. Teresina tells Fabrizio that the fate of their kingdom lies with him convincing Mangus that the ghost is real.

Chapter 19. Fabrizio returns to his chambers only to find Mangus gone. Fabrizio goes in search of his master and runs into the queen. The queen tells Fabrizio that she believes that the ghost is her son and that Count Scarazoni killed him. The queen then expresses a wish that she could see the ghost. Seconds later, the ghost appears, but only momentarily. The queen then leads Fabrizio upstairs the chapel, where they find Mangus on the floor.

Chapter 20. Mangus is only sleeping, claiming all the excitement of the day suddenly caught up with him. Mangus assures the queen...
