Summary
It is December 15, 1937, and Cristián Ferrar, a Spanish lawyer now based in Paris, is in New York City on a business trip. While many of his clients back in Europe are in times of crisis due to the Spanish civil war, the scene in New York City is charming and idyllic. Ferrar meets his lover, Eileen Moore, at a fancy restaurant. But, as they return to her room to make love, he notices two men ominously watching him from a taxi.
Two days later, in the war zone of Madrid, a man named Castillo is walking through the city in the middle of the night when the neighborhood is suddenly racked with an explosion. Castillo is stopped in an alleyway by a young boy who is, improbably, a sentry. The sentry takes Castillo to a long line of people who are waiting...
