Phoebe Harte
Phoebe Harte is Mick's older sister. Phoebe is thirteen. She is older than Mick by ten months. Phoebe was a planned child. Phoebe is very close to her brother. For instance, when Mick was learning to talk, Phoebe was the only one who was able to understand him. She and Mick often pulled pranks on their parents and others together.
Phoebe acts as the narrator for this novel. Although Phoebe deals with a very serious subject, her uniquely sarcastic yet humorous point of view keeps the novel from being too dark. As the narrator, Phoebe tells her reader from the start of the novel that she doesn't want her story to be a tearjerker. Her goal is to tell people about her brother. Phoebe takes her reader through the grieving process from a child's point of view.
