Sirens Summary
Phoebe begins this chapter by noting that she walked to school the day of Mick's accident with her best friend Zoe Santos. Although Mick could ride his black and chrome bike to school without looking like a doofus, Phoebe didn't ride hers because it was pink and white.
Phoebe goes on to explain that it was very important to Mick that he not look like a doofus in public. Phoebe tells a story about when Mick first saw his christening gown. He is embarrassed that his mother would take him out in public in a lacy white gown that he equated with ladies sleepwear. For a long time Mick overcompensated for this embarrassment by refusing to wear anything but a black t-shirt with a motorcycle on the front and a pair of camouflage pants to church.
