Earth, 1980

Earth is the overall setting for more than half the events in this book, and the events all take place in 1980. The majority of the events take place either in Paris or in New York. Earth is presented the same as it was during that time period and the reader should remember that this two-novel story was written in 1980 and 1981.

Solum

Solum is a planet where Laureline finds some information about what they are facing. The surface of the planet is spongy, and the building continues to sink. The inhabitants continue to add levels to the top of the building, and the lower levels each have memories about their time.

Zomuk

This is the planet where everyone in the universe dumps their trash. The conditions on the planet are horrible. Laureline says there is a horrible stench all the time and there are parasites and insects that live...
