Summary
In a telephone conversation, Valerian urges Albert to get down to business. He relates what he overheard during Cynthia's phone call. Albert begins to tell Valerian that he will soon be leaving France, but Valerian cuts him off before he can explain.
Valerian watches Cynthia leave and rushes outside to follow. There are two men in a car outside, and their conversation makes it clear that they are watching both Valerian and Cynthia. It seems that they are undecided about which to follow. The man driving the car has the other man lie down in the seat, and he covers him with a blanket. He then asks Valerian if he needs a chauffeur. Valerian hesitates only a moment before getting into the backseat of the car.
