The Theater
The primary broad strokes setting of the play is any theater in which it takes place, even the theater in the mind of the reader. Its essential nature, themes, and style of storytelling are all defined by there being actors, a space, and an audience: the third is as essential to the piece's overall intention as the first. Additionally, Western / European-style theatre, a category within which this piece falls, has its origins in narratives and situations dramatizing the relationship between humanity and the gods. At those points of origin, physical theaters resembled religious temples for that very reason. Because this play also considers relationships between humanity and the gods, its setting in a building with a theoretical history of exploring such relationships is appropriate and, again, fundamental to its meaning and purposes.
