Summary
Note – A description of the set calls for the action of the play to take place in and around a pool of water, around which there is a deck. Above the pool is a chandelier; there are a number of exits and entrances, with the author commenting, “It is essential that the audience look down at the playing space in such a way that the entire surface of the water is visible” (3). The Note also suggests that “although there is a great deal of narration in the play, it should not be taken as a substitute for action or a superfluous description of action” (3). Finally, the Note suggests that any movement and staging should “provide images that amplify the text, lend it poetic resonance, or, even, sometimes contradict it” (3)
