Page 33-68 Summary
This section of the book concerns itself primarily with the character of Captain Vimes as he starts to adjust to the idea of becoming a 'Gentleman of Leisure' and also, whilst he cogitates on this the plot of the book starts to quicken as mysterious events happen at the Assassin's Guild.
The section starts with Captain Vimes returning from his audience with the Patrician, realising that there is probably no one in the Watch ready to take on the role of Captain, and wondering why he feels so averse to leaving his job. He understands that he is doing so for the good wishes of his future wife, but feels that the social circles that he is soon to be a part of do not fit him.
