Summary
In Chapter 9, Ellen adjusted to life in the Bronx with her friends. They made and shared dinners and played old card games and chatted in the evenings. One night, Tam told the group that she thought Hunter and her friends were foolish and the “young people here were reckless” (232). The next day, Ellen asked Reem and Sunny what Tam had meant. They recommended she stay out of it (233). Not long later, however, Ellen engaged Hunter about her and her friends’ activities. She remembered her and her friends’ political endeavors years ago, suddenly doubting them.
Another night, Ellen and her housemates visited their friends Jina, Nemi, Shawn, and Aram. Aram and Hunter took Ellen aside and invited her to visit their group and talk about the garden and house she had built...
