Summary
In “Jackie Ong at the End of the World,” “Summer,” Jackie is working at Wonder in 1999. Her friend Deth Pham owns the company and hired Jackie as “director of web technology” (91). When Jackie is not at Wonder, she works on Lene, her web diary site. Lene “is up and running,” but still in development (93). One night, Jackie meets a Lene user named Diane Iha online. Diane lives in California, but the two develop an online relationship. The more they talk, the more Jackie likes Diane.
Jackie wants Lene to grow, but she has no interest in following the models of companies like ClickStart, whose founder Josh Kellerman’s ideas she does not agree with (95).
