As Lestat and David discuss the events of the previous evening, Lestat paces the floor of the Olympic Tower, stopping occasionally to peer at St. Patrick's Cathedral. He is eager to help Dora secure her fortune and convinces David to go to the treasure house with him because he is terrified of facing the statue though he is eager to complete his task. Fear overwhelms Lestat as he enters Roger's flat, and he is convinced that he is going to Hell when David tells him there is no black, granite statue. He acknowledges to himself that statue must have been the Devil. Admiring David, Lestat believes that it is due to the amount of blood he gave him rather than its strength.
