Chapters 9/10 Summary

Mildmay tells the others that he and Felix are going to the coast to find the Garden of Nephele for Felix. Mavortian doesn't want to lose Felix so he agrees to go, and Bernard goes wherever Mavortian goes. They plan to sneak through the northern part of the empire, keeping as far away from the Bastion as possible. Felix would be traceable by the Bastion and Gideon can cast a charm to hide him, but Gideon didn't want to go into the empire. Mavortian threatened to turn Gideon in as a spy, forcing Gideon, unhappily, to accompany them. Mildmay notices the way that Gideon watches Felix and realizes that Gideon is in love with Felix.
