Chapter 8 Summary

Mavortian explains what a fantome is to Mildmay. It is a spirit that takes over the body of a mortal. They reached Hermione and go looking for Felix. When they finally find the hotel where the wizards are staying, the Chimera Among the Roses, the desk clerk offers to bring them Lord Shannon or Lady Vicky. They play along, surprised by their luck. When Vicky and Shannon arrive, Mavortian introduces himself as a wizard of the Fresandran practice of wizardry. Vicky is condescending. Mavortian tries to warn her about the tower, but when they see Mildmay that think Mavortian, Bernard and Mildmay are in a conspiracy against them. Confused, Mavortian protests, but then they bring in Felix. Immediately Mildmay recognizes that Felix is his twin. Mildmay also notices how weak and terrified Felix is. It reminds him of the children he grew up...
