Chapters 9 and 10 Summary
Louisa doesn't sleep that night, thinking about the last two months and seeing them through different eyes. The next day, Will is even more animated than usual, acting as though he wanted to spar with her and disappointed when she doesn't join in. He points out that now clean shaven, it will have to be kept up, and asks if she minds. Then he finally asks her what's wrong. She doesn't answer and he apologizes for his sister's behavior. She leaves her resignation behind at the end of the day, knowing it is all she can do. When she gets home, a small crowd is outside, entertained by the neighbors who are loudly fighting about his infidelity as his wife tosses all he owns outside.
