Chapter 13 Summary
Knowing the time of arrival of the Queen Artemisia, Pitt and Giordino are waiting for her. Giordino is on the beach watching through binoculars, Pitt is in the water, disguising his presence under a wooden packing crate so that he can approach the ship without detection. Pitt climbs up the anchor chain to the deck of the ship, keeping very quiet, and yet everywhere he goes in the ship, there is nothing to indicate that there is even a crew. The entire ship is empty, and yet he knows that no small vessels left the ship with crew members aboard. The longer he stays aboard the ship, the more uncomfortable he becomes, a part of him believing in stories of phantom ships and phantom crews.
