Chapter 11 Summary
Pitt and Giordino are apprehended as soon as they emerge from the labyrinth with Teri still over Giordino's shoulder to face the business end of the tour guide's gun. They make an attempt to pretend to be two drunken sailors on shore leave just having some fun, but it does not work. Pitt fears the worst, that they will be charged and held for trial. They continue to pretend that Teri is a village whore who changed her mind about her price for her favors. The guide continues to disbelieve them, though Pitt begins to trust the guide to some extent, he senses no subterfuge in the man. Once Teri is released, she screams in outrage and protest, but ultimately defends Pitt, threatening her uncle's reprisal unless they are released.
