Chapter 9 Summary

Pitt sleeps only a couple of hours before waking and trying to make sense of the events of the past two days. He puzzles over Teri and von Till, wondering if she had tried to warn him in some way or if she was in on whatever it is that von Till is up to. Colonel Lewis and Al Giordino from the base are waiting when Pitt wakes, and they begin a council of war, trying to figure out what is behind von Till's behavior.

"They hadn't wasted any time in coming. If Giordino received an answer from NUMA headquarters, it might help to supply one of the many missing pieces to the puzzle. The four borders were forming, but the middle was a scattered conglomeration of uncertain and unknown quantities. Von Till's evil face leered from the maze, his tight-lipped grin curling...
