Summary
In Chapter 43, Julie discusses with Lori uncomfortable comments people make to her that are meant be comforting, but really just made her feel worse. She discusses how people generally avoid talking to her about dying and the truth of her situation. She would choose awkward over ignored any day. She jokes about writing a book about what to say to a dying person: “A Guide for the Well-Meaning but Clueless” (309). She wants them to remember, “I’m still me” (310). Julie also discusses how vivid her world has become. Tastes, smell, sounds, and experiences are all filled with a new intensity. She has not expected to find pleasure in her grief.
