Summary
Gabby stays with her parents the day Mark is supposed to come collect his things. While waiting for him to arrive, Hannah calls her family “to tell them [she is] pregnant” (267). When she explains to Doug and Maureen that she will “be a single mother,” they do not withhold their enthusiasm and support (270). They urge her to move to London. Afterwards, Hannah lies in bed daydreaming about leaving L.A. and raising her child in London. Mostly, she thinks “about Gabby” (272).
When Mark arrives, he tries explaining himself to Hannah. He does not make excuses for hurting Gabby, but tells Hannah people often meet their soul mates while with someone else. Hannah does understand the complicated dynamic, but believes “our lives are still the results of our choices” (274).
When Gabby gets home, Hannah tells her her parents want her “to move to London...
