Chapters 29-32 Summary

In the morning, Cassia wakes up to the sounds of screaming. This time it really is human screaming. Ky is being taken away, sent as a soldier to the Outer Banks. His family knows it's a death sentence. The Officials come in and tell everyone to take their red tablets. Cassia destroys hers, and her Official knows it, but doesn't address the issue.

The red tablet works on those who took it. They lose their memory of the last 12 hours. Cassia doesn't want to forget. The pain of losing Ky is part of loving him. Her mother gets a message.
