Book Two, Kate and David, 1906-1914: Chapters 12-15 Summary

Kate is working late at Kruger-Brent, Limited's offices when a group of cops come along to search for a wanted killer. Kate successfully keeps them from finding the wanted man, who turns out to be Banda, wanted for killing a guard during a prison break. Banda did not kill the man, but the police want to kill him because he has begun rallying protest against racial discrimination. Banda fights the white government because he holds them responsible for the death of one of his sons. Kate sneaks Banda out of her office and onto her private train car, riding with him to Cape Town.
