Chapters 17-24 Summary
The winter arrives in New York City. Schuyler goes to spend Christmas Day with her mother at the hospital, as she does every year. Oliver prepares to visit Schuyler the following day, but Hattie, the Van Alen maid, calls him in a panic. Oliver rushes over to find Schuyler apparently lifeless on her bed. Oliver calls his aunt, Dr. Pat, a human who cares for Blue Bloods, who urges Oliver to bring Schuyler to her office, which he does. Dr. Pat gives her a blood transfusion, which wakes her. Dr. Pat explains to Schuyler that she was in an extended sleep, which usually occurs toward the end of cycles, when vampires grow weary of immortality. Schuyler's human DNA is fighting the vampire DNA, which in turn is fighting back. This is due to Schuyler's mixed birth.
