Summary
Michigan, p. 177 – 201. As the school year came to an end, Cat writes, she spent a great deal of time uncomfortably avoiding Marlena’s dad, and even more time with Marlena and her friends. She got a couple of bad grades (including one in the class taught by Mr. Ratner), but also a couple of good ones, including an A+ on a creative writing assignment. The comment on that assignment, she says in narration, suggested she write about something that really mattered to her – this leads her, in narration, to comment on how she now realizes she should have asked Marlena about the painful truths she (Cat) heard in Marlena’s voice, including a hint that the last day of school that year would be her last day of school forever.
