Point of View
"Marked" by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast is written in the first person point of view, through the eyes of the main character, Zoey Redbird. The use of first person in the story works well in that the reader is able to understand the modern world of vampyres through the eyes of one of its fledgling practitioners. The reader is taken on a journey along with Zoey as she becomes Marked as a vampyre and enters the House of Night, the school that teaches fledglings about their new lives, powers, cravings, and gifts.
The use of first person makes the story seem slightly less fantastic to the point that the reader can grasp what life might be like for a high school student cast into a strange world if vampyres were real. It also allows the reader to understand how it might feel to be...
