Sexual attraction
The main theme of this novel is the sexual attraction between Casey and Alex. Although the attraction is there from the beginning, it takes both Casey and Alex awhile to give in to their emotions. Casey fights against his feelings for Alex because he has been hurt in a prior relationship where his wife did not like Alaska and did not want to stay. At first Alex holds back from Casey because he tells her he does not want to get married. Once she learns the truth behind his not wanting to get married, Alex pursues Casey relentlessly.
It is important to notice the differences in attraction between Casey and Alex. Much of Alex's desire for Casey seems to be on a purely sexual nature. Although she does seem to care deeply for Casey, these emotions don't seem to spread to taking care of him or really...
