Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 25 – the morning after Anna and Dexter’s dive – Dexter remembered the experience of the “discovery” (345) he had during his dive but could not recall its content. He arrived at home early in the morning, as usual, and found Harriet up and getting ready, which was not usual. Harriet told him that he was “off [his] game” (349) and that her father had affirmed this assessment, which made Dexter uneasy. She left with Tabatha to play bridge at the hunt club. Dexter slept for a while and then got up to find Philip and John-Martin building model ships. While Dexter was with the boys, Heels called the house and told him that Mr. Q’s son wanted him to go to the boathouse and check on some “activity” (352) there.
