Malone
Malone is a poor, sickly old man that lies in bed, in a room whose location is unknown. He states at the beginning that there are two things he wants to do before he dies: tell his stories in a clear manner, and form an inventory of his possessions. Nothing is known about his past, except what can be gleaned from the story he tells about Sapo/Macmann, who may or may not be Malone himself. He expresses the desire to be as earnest as possible, but is frequently prone to evasive irony, and self-deprecating comments. Malone seems to desire romantic love, companionship, and a "normal" life, but, for reasons unknown, could never experience these things.
