Martial Megremut

Martial Megremut is the protagonist and first-person narrator of Malicroix. Martial's maternal uncle is Cornelius Malicroix, from whom he inherits Le Redousse and its surrounding property. As a Megremut, Martial's disposition is more relaxed and pleasure-seeking. He is accustomed to leisurely pastoral pastimes such as fruit picking and the study of botany. He is also accustomed to the enjoyment of company as the Megremuts have an extensive family community and they enjoy a jovial company among one another. By contrast Cornelius Malicroix lives a solitary and austere life on his remote island.

Martial's tenure at Le Redousse marks an embrace of his Malicroix blood.
