Summary
In “10:00 a.m.,” when Nina took over Riva’s Seafood, previously Pacific Fish, it had become an institution. She visited daily to greet the diners even though she hated the interaction. A boy ran to her and asked her to sign a poster he was holding. He tried to stand too close during a picture. The boy’s father stroked his hand over Nina’s side and hips. He apologized, but said he needed to feel for himself if it was really “soft to the touch” (60). Nina knew that was the fault of an ad for SoftSun Tees in which a suggestive photo had been used. They had put the tagline “See for yourself, it’s soft to the touch” (60) right below her breasts. Regardless she hated the type of attention it brought to her.
