Last Chance, Minnesota

Last Chance, Minnesota is the small town where Daisy’s grandparents live and where Daisy and her mother go when Opa gets sick. There are not many Chinese people in Last Chance, and at times during the history of the town, people were discriminatory against Chinese people.

The Golden Palace

The Golden Palace is the Chinese restaurant that Oma and Opa run. Daisy, Maizy, and Charlotte help out there. There is a tall bear statue out front named Bud. The restaurant was run by numerous generations of Chens, beginning with Lucky, but he did not start the restaurant; he started out as an employee there. After Opa dies, a new generation of people run the restaurant including a recent Chinese American culinary school graduate.
