Summary
In Chapter 63, Maizy considers how such a small town has prejudice problems, and it then makes sense to her that countries cannot get along. Charlotte tells Maizy that she did not like being known as the Chinese restaurant owners’ daughter while growing up. She wanted to go someplace exciting where she could reinvent herself. Charlotte believes all Oma cared about was The Golden Palace, and Maizy believes there is a lot Charlotte and her parents do not know about each other.
In Chapter 64, Mayor Whitlock is celebrated. Maizy is as well, but she is upset because she did not say what she is quoted as saying: “Isn’t it time that we’ve evolved past prejudice?” (207). Whitlock tells her that he paraphrased what she said, and then he tells her to just let everyone think that she said it. Maizy gets a response...
