Part 2, Chapters 60, 61 and 62 Summary
Nicholas awakens on what he comes to believe is Conchis' yacht. He is no longer bound, but is kept under constant guard by several individuals who he recognizes from both the time when he was locked in the underground cave and the time when he was included in the Nazi masque. He reflects bitterly on Julie's betrayal and comes to consider Alison as a beacon of truth and honesty in his life. After a couple of days, he's visited by the man who played Anton in the Nazi masque, who tells him he's about to be taken before a court and judged. After urging Nicholas to shave and make himself presentable, Anton leaves. Nicholas rages inwardly, but does as he's obviously meant to do; he has no choice.
