Summary

Chapter 1 begins with Magnus Chase, Alex Fierro, Annabeth Chase, and Percy Jackson standing on a large ship in the Boston Harbor. Percy Jackson gives Magnus tips on how to survive a fall into the water from a high height. Magnus explains that he and Percy have been working together to prep for an upcoming sea voyage. He has not been successful at learning these new techniques. Magnus jumps from the ship, focusing on falling how Percy taught him. Jack, a talking sword also known as the Sword of Summer, interrupts Magnus’s concentration while he is falling. Despite this, he survives the fall with only minor injuries.
