Summary

Chapter 1, "Could You Please Stop Killing My Goat?" opens with Magnus meeting a Valkyrie named Samirah al-Abbas (Sam) for coffee. It is casually mentioned that Magnus is dead as Sam arrives and tells him that her schedule has been busy between school, missions from Odin, and flight class gifted to her by her betrothed, Amir. She tells him to meet her informant as she has to escort a soul to Valhalla just as she did for Magnus and leaves. Magnus explains to the reader that he used to live on the streets until he was killed fighting a fire giant and taken to the Valhalla Hotel as one of Odin’s warriors, an einherjar.
