Toby

Toby is the narrator and primary protagonist of MaddAddam. She is thoughtful, introspective and a bit inconsiderate. She is the resident doctor of the remaining human enclave living at the cobb-house. Toby’s backstory remains untouched throughout the book except for a few key facts. She worked at a fast food restaurant in the Pleeblands. Her manager was a Painballer who had killed several women, and Toby was next on his list. She was found by Adam, Zeb’s brother, and became one of God’s Gardeners, a religious-like group devoted to restoring nature. After she left the Gardeners, Toby worked at The AnooYoo Spa, and during the chaos, she barricaded herself inside of the facility and lived in solitude until it was safe to leave.
