Summary
In Part I, the protagonist Aakash finds himself dreaming about Ghana, despite the fact that he has never visited the country. Aakash is 24 years old and lives with his parents, who disapprove of him, believing him to be lazy and irresponsible, despite the fact that he has a full-time job at a tourist magazine. Aakash meets his friend Rahul, a wealthy playboy, in a restaurant and they discuss his dream. Rahul points out a famous painter also dining there named “Sambhavana,” which means “possibility” (131). Aakash believes he needs some sort of password to get further access into his Ghana dream, and he tries saying “Sambhavana” that night, and it works. He dreams of riding a camel in the desert, imagining himself as a man named Hamad who is seeking his runaway daughter.
