Maddie

Maddie Wright is the main protagonist of the novel, and the novel is told from her first person perspective. At the start of the novel, Maddie is 25 and living at her parents home in London. Maddie is a Black woman - both of her parents originally from Ghana. Maddie has one older brother - James - who is a more minor character and has moved out a long time ago. Her mother lives off and on in Ghana, while Maddie stays home and cares for their father who has Parkinson’s. Maddie has two best friends - Nia and Shu - who both play a role in the novel. She is a loyal friend, introverted, funny, self-concious, and observant. She relies on Google to cure her self-doubt and curiosity, but also giving the reader comic relief.
