Summary

In Chapter 2, Lucy wants to share a story “about people [she] met through Margaret and Bob” (121). The couple invited her and William to the marina, where they met Katherine Caskey. Katherine talked about her childhood. These stories made Bob realize they had met as children. When they saw each other as children, they both felt they “were connected” (125). Lucy exclaimed about the story on the way home. William thought they “could be making it up,” as many memories “aren’t accurate” (127). Lucy considered the accuracy of her own memories.

Lucy and William went “exploring in the car” (128). They found headstones from the 1918 flu epidemic. Lucy remembered that the world had “been through this before” (129). Later, when William offered to help Lucy research her family with an ancestry subscription, she said no.
