Greed
The novel begins with two individuals winning the Florida lottery. Each ticket is worth more than fourteen million dollars and is paid out in just over half a million dollars a year. However, sharing this jackpot is not something one of the winners Bode Gazzer is willing to do. Bode wants to have all of the money. Bode and his friend Chub steal the other ticket and make plans to turn them both in for the reward. However, their plans are sidetracked when they fear that a black political group has targeted him. In the end, the rightful owner ends up with the tickets. It is greed that brings Bode into possession of these tickets and greed that also leads to his downfall.
