Chapters 29-30 and Epiphany Summary
In Chapter 29, JoLayne goes to the real estate office and enters into a bidding war with Bernard Squires. JoLayne is beginning to fear that Squires will be able to beat her in their bidding war. Moffitt shows up and takes Squires into a private office, informing him that he knows he works for Tarbone. He threatens that if Squires buys Simmons Wood, that he will make sure that a reporter in town does an expose on the purchase and the intended use of the land and the men behind it. Aware Tarbone does not need added publicity, Squires quickly pulls out of the deal, leaving JoLayne the only bidder. At that same time, Krome arrives at Demencio's to pick up JoLayne's turtles.
