Point of View

The novel is written in third person, but most scenes are from the limited perspective of Lucky Armstrong. The only exception is that there are a few scenes from Margaret Jean's perspective. She is the nun on duty the night Lucky's mother leaves her on the steps of the church. She then spends years working with Valerie, helping her get a good start in life, and is responsible for bringing Valerie and Lucky together. Those scenes are rather limited in scope, though Margaret Jean seems to be honest. She reveals that she has cheated people out of a lot of money and is hiding by pretending to be a nun the night Lucky is left at the church. She hopes she has atoned for her past by helping Valerie.
