Summary

The next chapter is also titled “October 2008, New York City.” Margaret Jean recognized John and Lucky the moment they enter the church. She watches them light the candles. She is shaken from her stasis when Lucky blows out the candles but is still not sure what to do. She considers their presence to be a miracle. She sees that Lucky is still wearing the necklace she gave John that night. She still cannot decide what to do. When John calls her Mary Jean, she rushes away. Outside, the takes down the license plate of the SUV where Reyes is waiting. She takes a taxi to Valerie's office. She identifies herself, asks to see Valerie, and says it is urgent.
