Summary

Chapter 2 picks up in 2008. Lucky and Cary are at the Bellagio casino. Lucky wins big at Texas Hold'em by bluffing, then gives all her chips to a pimply-faced kid and the dealer. She sees Cary talking to someone while she is playing, but he claims it was just someone asking directions. Cary insists on champagne though they are catching a very early flight out of the country. He takes her to the roof using an employee key card. Cary pleads with Lucky to love him, “no matter what.” Cary passes off his words as being nervous about what they are about to do. Lucky looks out over Las Vegas. She feels the “kind of hope a lottery ticket held just before you checked its numbers” (24).
